Frequently asked questions
About Parent Sense
The Parent Sense app is an all-in-one baby tracker and parenting guide, developed by qualified health professionals under the leadership of parenting expert and author Meg Faure. It uses science-based information to support you through pregnancy, the newborn stage, babies and toddlers.
You can track your baby's sleep, feeds, weight and milestones, follow a routine built for their age, and find guidance written and reviewed by our clinical team.
Yes. Pregnant users get weekly developmental updates for you and your baby, and access to our pregnancy, lactation and parenting courses.
Once your baby arrives, see 'How do I add my newborn and activate a subscription from pregnancy trial mode?'.
The process varies depending on which partner you are with, so it is best to contact your provider first and follow their requirements for activating the benefit.
Once you have done that:
- Download the app.
- Follow the guided steps to set up your account.
- During onboarding, tick the box asking whether you are with one of our corporate partners.
- Select your partner from the dropdown list.
- Enter your membership details.
It can take up to 48 hours for your subscription to appear. For help, email corporatesupport@parentsense.app.
If you are in Jersey, you do not need to do any of this. Simply select Jersey as your location when you sign up and your access is activated automatically.
About aiah
aiah is the conversational assistant in the Parent Sense app. You can ask it questions about pregnancy, your baby and toddler care in your own words.
aiah answers from the Parent Sense content library, which is written and reviewed by our clinical team. It retrieves the relevant guidance from that library and puts it into plain language for you. It does not answer from the open internet.
aiah uses your baby's details, such as their age, whether they were born prematurely and how you feed them, to make the information it gives you relevant to your baby.
aiah runs on cloud infrastructure that we control, and uses third-party foundation models to turn our content into a reply. It is built on artificial intelligence, but it is not a person and it is not a health professional. Treat its answers as a helpful starting point rather than the final word.
aiah's answers are generated automatically. No person reads or approves an answer before you receive it.
Afterwards, our clinical team reviews aiah in two ways. Every answer you mark with a thumbs down is read by a member of our clinical team, who checks what went wrong and adds or corrects the underlying guidance where needed. Separately, we review a random sample of questions and answers every week to check that aiah is accurate, safe and consistent with our content.
That is review, not monitoring. No automated system scans, scores or flags your conversations, and nobody is reading them as you have them. aiah is not an emergency service.
aiah applies a fixed safety rule set, developed with clinical input. It recognises certain combinations of symptoms and certain diagnostic-type questions, and when it does, it stops answering and directs you to a health professional or emergency service instead.
Those conditions are the same for every user and every baby. They do not change based on your baby's age, prematurity, feeding method or anything you have tracked.
If aiah tells you to seek medical advice, that is the system working as designed. Please follow it.
No. aiah provides general information and guidance about pregnancy, infant and toddler care. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it cannot examine or assess your baby.
If you are worried about your baby's health, contact your midwife, health visitor, GP, clinic sister or paediatrician. If you think your baby may be seriously unwell, contact emergency services straight away.
We store your conversations so that aiah can follow the thread of what you are asking, so that we can look into anything you raise with us, and so that our clinical team can check the quality and safety of its answers.
We keep them for as long as your account is active. When you close your account they are held for 30 days in case you change your mind, and are then deleted or permanently anonymised.
You can ask us to delete your conversations at any time by emailing dpo@parentsense.app. We will do so unless we need to keep a specific conversation to deal with a complaint or safety concern you have raised.
Your conversations stay within our own private Amazon Web Services environment. They are not sent on to the company that built the model we use, they are not retained by any third party, and they are not used to train or retrain any artificial intelligence model.
Where you mark an answer with a thumbs down, a member of our clinical team reads it and may add or correct guidance in our content library. That improves what aiah can draw on in future, but it does not change the AI model itself.

Please tell us. Email clinicalsafety@parentsense.app with as much detail as you can, including what you asked and what aiah replied.
We log every report, review it clinically, and come back to you. Where we find a problem we change the underlying content or the safety rules so it does not happen again.
Safety
Parent Sense helps you understand your baby's routine, track sleep, feeding, weight and development, and find guidance written by qualified health professionals.
There are things it cannot do, and we would rather be clear about them.
aiah can be wrong. It can be incomplete or out of date, and it can sound more certain than it should.
It is not a substitute for your midwife, health visitor, clinic sister, GP or paediatrician.
Our guidance may differ from advice you have been given locally. If it does, follow the professional in front of you.
Tracking milestones is not developmental screening.
It is not for emergencies.
More on how we manage clinical risk is on our Trust and safety page.
Do not use the app. If you believe you or your child may be seriously unwell, contact emergency services straight away.
In South Africa: 10177 for an ambulance, or 112 from a mobile.
In Jersey and the United Kingdom: 999, or 111 for urgent but non-emergency advice.
Elsewhere in Europe: 112.
You can also go to your nearest emergency department. Parent Sense is not an emergency service and nobody is monitoring the app for urgent messages.
No. The milestone tracker helps you understand and record what your baby is working towards. It does not screen for, detect or rule out any developmental condition.
Babies reach milestones at very different ages, which is why we show a wide age range for each one. But a tracker that looks reassuring should never stop you raising a concern. If you are worried about your child's development, or they seem delayed across a cluster of milestones, speak to your health professional.
Meg Faure is our Clinical Safety Officer. She is a registered Occupational Therapist and holds responsibility for clinical risk management across the platform.
We run a documented clinical risk management process aligned to DCB0129, the NHS standard for clinical risk management in health IT. You can read a summary on our Clinical safety page.
If you have a concern about the clinical safety of anything in our app or content, email clinicalsafety@parentsense.app.
We are so sorry. Losing a pregnancy or a baby is devastating, and there is no right way to feel about it.
Please be gentle with yourself, and reach out to the people around you. Your midwife, GP or health visitor can help, and can put you in touch with specialist bereavement support.
When you feel ready, and only then, you can remove the pregnancy or baby profile from the app so that we stop sending you updates:
If you have other children on the app and want to keep your account, you can delete just that profile. From the Home screen, select the 'More' menu at the bottom right, select Edit Profiles, find the profile and select the dustbin icon, then confirm.
If you would rather not keep the app at all, you can delete your whole account and all of your information. See 'How do I delete my account and my data?'.
There is no rush, and you can leave things exactly as they are for as long as you want to.
Your data and privacy
We collect what we need to run the service: your account details, and the information you enter about your baby, such as date of birth, prematurity, sleep, feeds, weight, vaccinations and milestones.
Some of it is required for the app to work at all, mainly your baby's date of birth, because all the age-based guidance is calculated from it. Other things are entirely optional, such as photographs and diary entries, and the app works perfectly well without them.
Our privacy policy sets out the full list and what we do with each item.
You can. So can any caregiver you have invited to your account, and authorised Parent Sense staff who need access to run or support the service.
Your baby's information is not visible to other users of the app, and we do not sell or trade your personal data.
If you are using Parent Sense through an employer, medical scheme or insurer, we share overall uptake and usage figures with them. We do not share your personal information or your baby's health data.
Related: Privacy policy
You can delete your account yourself in the app at any time, or email dpo@parentsense.app if you would prefer us to do it.
When you delete your account we hold your information for 30 days, in case you change your mind and want it back. After 30 days it is permanently deleted, apart from anything we are legally required to keep, such as transaction records.
You can also ask us to delete specific information without closing your whole account.
If you only want to remove one baby rather than your whole account, see 'How do I delete a baby?'.
Marketing is optional and you can change your mind at any time. Turn it off in your account settings, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email. Push notifications can be managed in your device settings and in the app.
Turning marketing off will not affect your access to the app. You will still receive essential service messages, such as billing and security notices.
Parent Sense is for parents and expectant parents. It is not designed for children and we do not market it to them.
Some parents and expectant parents are themselves under 18. If that is you, you are welcome to use Parent Sense. Please email dpo@parentsense.app so we can set your account up properly.
If you believe a child who is not a parent or expectant parent is using the app, or has given us their information without a parent or guardian knowing, tell us at dpo@parentsense.app. We will look into it, suspend the account where appropriate, and delete the information.
Babies and profiles
Once your baby is born, click the 'Capture my baby's birth' button on the pregnancy screen to add your baby. This removes the trial baby from your profile and activates your new baby's profile. You will need a subscription to access full functionality.
You can update your baby's details on your profile:
- From the Home screen, select the 'More' menu at the bottom right.
- Select Edit Profiles.
- Find the baby profile you want to update and select the pencil icon next to their name.
- Update the details and save.
It is worth checking these are correct. Your baby's date of birth and prematurity setting are what the routine, milestones and content are calculated from, so if either is wrong, the guidance you see will be too.
To remove a baby profile or pregnancy from the app:
- From the Home screen, select the 'More' menu at the bottom right.
- Select Edit Profiles.
- Find the baby profile you want to delete, select the dustbin icon next to their name, and confirm.
We hold that profile's information for 30 days in case you change your mind, then it is permanently deleted.

You can add as many babies as you need, and each one gets their own profile. Whether you have twins, triplets or more, Parent Sense has you covered. Congratulations, by the way.
Congratulations on your new baby. To add another:
- Click the More menu at the bottom right of the home screen.
- Click Edit Profiles.
- Click 'Add another baby' and enter your new baby's details.
With Parent Sense you can guide twins towards the same routine, but if they are on different schedules you can work with a routine specific to each baby.
- Click your baby's name, the icon at the top left of the navigation bar.
- A dropdown appears with your other babies' names.
- Click the baby whose routine you want to see.
Yes. You can add up to two other caregivers to your profile. They will be able to log in and view your baby's information, track sleeps, feeds and health, and more. A caregiver cannot delete a baby profile.
Adding a caregiver means sharing your baby's health information with them, so only invite someone you are happy to have that access.
You can remove a caregiver at any time. You can either remove their access to a particular child, or remove them from your account altogether. A caregiver has their own user account, so removing them from yours does not delete their account.
Related: Who can see my baby's information?
Yes. Parent Sense can be used to help you care for a premature baby. Until your baby reaches their expected birth date, the app delivers content specifically for premature babies.
The app calculates the approximate adjusted age and delivers content accordingly. As your baby gets older, the algorithm gradually decreases the number of weeks between actual age and corrected age.
There will be greater variability in routines and milestones with premature babies, as some catch up quicker than others. Please use your judgement and always follow your doctor or healthcare advisor's guidance.
Routine and tracking
If the sleep starts 30 or more minutes before the feed, opt for the sleep and feed when your baby wakes.
If the sleep starts less than 30 minutes before the feed, feed first and then put your baby down.
The morning waking time determines many of the feed and sleep times throughout the day. Most babies wake between 5am and 7am, and waking earlier or later than this will fundamentally change how many feeds and sleeps are needed in the daytime.
For healthy night sleep habits, your baby should optimally wake within this window. Using the suggested day feed and sleep times, as well as the bedtime, will help your baby sleep better at night.
If you want to use a later morning wake time than 7am, you will need to mentally adjust the suggested day sleeps and feeds accordingly.
There are two ways to see your baby's daily routine:
On the home dashboard, under 'Routine', you will see the next three items for the day.
To see the full routine, click the heart logo at the bottom of the screen.
On the free version of the app, your baby's suggested routine adjusts based on the time your baby woke in the morning.
On the premium version you have our Responsive Routine, which adjusts your baby's daily plan in real time. If your baby wakes late or has a short nap, the app recalculates the feeding and sleep times for the rest of the day. Track events as accurately as you can for the best results.
The app uses a science-based baby routine as its foundation, built on well-researched sleep and feeding norms for your baby's age, feeding method and prematurity status. Tracking customises the routine further to your individual baby.
Always log a feed if your baby breastfeeds for more than 2 minutes or drinks half a bottle or more. Always log a sleep if it lasts more than 15 minutes.
- Navigate to the routine screen by clicking the heart logo at the centre bottom of the screen.
- Navigate to tracked data by clicking the 'Tracked' button at the top.
- Find the entry you want to delete or edit and click the pencil icon on the far right. This opens an edit screen where you can update the time and duration.
Sleep
To track sleep, click the dark grey + at the top right of the Home dashboard, or next to the suggested sleep on the home dashboard.
This opens a sleep logger. You can either start tracking from that moment, or enter the start and end times of the last sleep.
Once tracking begins, a bar appears at the top of the home dashboard showing how long your baby has been sleeping. To stop recording, click Stop on the top bar, or click the dark grey + button and tap Stop on the pop-up.
Click the dark grey + at the top right of the Home dashboard. Enter the start time of the sleep and set the end time as the current time, then click Save.
Then open the sleep logger again and click Start to begin tracking the current sleep. When your baby wakes you can stop recording as usual.
Try to log the sleep from the time your baby fell asleep, as you may not be in the room the entire time. Log it from the time your baby is quiet, or the approximate time of falling asleep.
In general we do not wake babies, as sleep is so important.
Don't wake your baby unless the app specifically prompts you to do so. This may be recommended if your newborn is waking more at night than in the day (day-night reversal).
For the late afternoon nap, we do recommend waking your baby if they sleep too close to bedtime, as this can affect how easily your baby settles at night.
If you are concerned about your baby's sleep, speak to your health professional.
Health, weight and milestones
- Click the Health tile on the home screen.
- Click Weight on the top left.
- Click Update weight and log the new weight with the date you weighed your baby.
If you have any concerns about your baby's weight or growth, speak to your clinic sister, health visitor or doctor.
- Click the Health tile on the home screen.
- Click Weight on the top left.
- Click Weight history and then click the edit pencil.
- Log the revised weight and date.
Click the Play tile on the home screen. In the middle of the page, click your baby's milestones (the pink bar).
Tick the box to indicate your baby has achieved a milestone, and insert the date it was achieved. The app will log how old your baby was at the time. To remove a log, tick the box again and you will be prompted to delete it.
The suggested ages for milestones are wide bands. All babies are different and will achieve milestones at their own pace. If your baby has a cluster of milestones that are much later than expected, speak to your healthcare advisor.

Vaccinations and regions
You can update your territory on your profile:
- From the Home screen, select the 'More' menu at the bottom right.
- Select Edit Profiles.
- Select Edit details under your profile name.
- Update the details and save.
We provide vaccination information for South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Jersey, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and Australia.
If you are not in one of these regions, the vaccination information defaults to the United States. It is your responsibility to ensure you obtain the correct vaccination information for your child in line with your country's health department advice.
